A bit about Balby
The Walter Scott and Gladstone-era streets off Balby Road and St John’s Road, Ivanhoe, Kenilworth, Peveril and Waverley alongside Gladstone, Salisbury, Victoria and the Boer War generals Roberts and Milner, are the terraces of roughly 1890 to 1914.
The enormous poets’ estate is the interwar and post-war semis: Wordsworth, Shelley, Byron, Ruskin, Keats, Browning, Burns, Chesterton, Dryden, Longfellow, Swinburne. That naming register is the classic signature of municipal estate building, and it matches Balby South’s housing profile exactly.
The flower and wildlife names off Woodfield Way are Carr Lodge, where 1,600 homes are still going up. Outline approval came in 2012, Keepmoat started Phase 1 in 2013, and Phase 3 of 390 homes was approved in 2025. And yes, the exterior shots for Open All Hours were filmed on Lister Avenue.
